Montreal Port Authority has started in-water construction at the long-planned Contrecœur container terminal, moving the expansion project from preparatory work into its main marine construction phase.
Initial work centres on a stone working jetty. Steel casing piles are due to start arriving on August 17, with wharf construction scheduled to begin this autumn and dredging planned for 2027.
Aecon and Pomerleau are carrying out construction through the CTCGP consortium. The terminal is planned to be fully operational by 2030 with capacity for 1.15m teu a year, two berths, an intermodal rail yard and a truck gate.
The terminal design and construction and operating agreement with DP World Canada still has to be finalised.
