But the interesting part isn’t the money.
It’s which pot the money came out of.
First: $16.1 million for a fully crewed trailing-suction hopper dredge supporting the New Orleans District’s regional dredging program.
Four bids. Completion July 2027.
Funding: FY2026 Civil Operation & Maintenance.
Same day: $68.9 million for improvement dredging at New Haven Harbor, Connecticut.
Four bids. Completion March 2028. The full contract amount obligated at award.
Funding: FY2026 Civil Construction.
Read those two funding lines next to each other.
In this case, the distinction is clean.
O&M money keeps the navigation system working. Construction money changes what the system can do.
The Gulf Coast award puts a hopper dredge to work maintaining federal navigation channels.
New Haven is different. The Corps is deepening the navigation channel and turning basin to 40 feet MLLW, expanding channel limits and removing millions of cubic yards of material.
That’s capital improvement.
For scale, KDJay Group’s tally put the entire U.S. dredging bid market at about $1.18 billion through the first half of 2026, with Great Lakes at roughly $81 million.
New Haven alone is almost another first half for GLDD.
But the bigger market-intelligence point is the appropriation.
