President Donald Trump highlighted a $3.7 billion defense project in Maryland on Tuesday, emphasizing its role in reviving America’s shipbuilding capabilities for national security and economic growth.

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore said in a statement the initiative could potentially create “the most jobs in Maryland in history.”

Trump also underscored Baltimore’s importance to the future of America’s Navy.

“With our combined efforts, this will be a golden age like no country has ever seen, and like our country has never seen,” Trump said. “It’ll also be a golden age of shipbuilding.”

The project involves the military technology company Anduril investing more than $3 billion to build components for nuclear-powered submarines at a Baltimore-area shipyard. Administration officials said the government will commit $2.9 billion to the project by purchasing the factory’s output.

Trump’s public appearance is part of a series of events showcasing investments in factories across the country. These events continue as high gasoline prices from the Iran war and inflation have impacted the president’s approval ratings on the economy.

According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular gas is $4.37 per gallon. Before the war started at the end of February, gas was $2.98 per gallon.

Later Wednesday, Trump is scheduled to hold a rally in San Antonio, Texas. The rally will likely aim to encourage voters to support GOP candidates in next month’s midterm elections.
