On October 9th, Tan Cang – Cai Mep Thi Vai Port Company Limited (TCTT) and Cai Mep International Port Company Limited (CMIT) officially put the TCTT – CMIT shared berth into commercial operation, marking a new development in the cooperation between the two adjacent deep-water ports in the Cai Mep – Thi Vai area.
This is the result of a collaboration spanning over two years between two adjacent deep-water port enterprises, beginning with the opening of an internal connecting gate and the signing of a memorandum of cooperation on May 24, 2024.
TCTT – CMIT are two large deep-water container ports in the Cai Mep – Thi Vai area, capable of receiving and operating large international vessels. They have the advantage of being adjacent, having similar elevations, aligned berth edges, and a connecting rail system for cranes.
According to the operational plan, the shared terminal allows the two ports to simultaneously receive three large mother vessels, instead of a maximum of two as before. This also has the potential to increase operating capacity by approximately 30-40%, equivalent to about 400,000-500,000 TEU/year for each port, thereby creating additional capacity to serve nearly 900,000 TEU/year for the entire two-terminal system.
In the context of an ever-growing container fleet, continuously evolving international service networks, and increasing demands for productivity and vessel turnaround times, the TCTT – CMIT Joint Terminal was formed to meet the need for enhanced flexibility and more efficient utilization of existing resources.
Connecting the berth space allows the two ports to better coordinate in ship planning, berth arrangement, equipment and personnel, especially when ship schedules fluctuate; it also enhances the capacity to serve large-sized and tonnage container ships, better meeting the requirements of international service routes.

A special highlight of the event was the presence of the AIN SNAN EXPRESS vessel, belonging to Hapag-Lloyd shipping company, currently operating at the TCTT – CMIT common terminal. Immediately after the announcement ceremony, the cranes of both ports simultaneously performed the operation of lifting containers for import and export, marking the moment the common terminal officially entered the commercial operation phase.
