The Port of Hamburg has been integrated into MSC’s feeder service operating between the United Kingdom and several Baltic Sea ports.
Four containerships with capacities ranging between 2,000 TEU and 3,500 TEU will be deployed in the Baltic Loop 3 service and will are set to call at Wilhelmshaven (Germany), Bremerhaven (Germany), Hamburg (Germany), Portbury (UK), Liverpool (UK), Greenock (UK), Le Havre (France), Antwerp (Belgium), Tallinn (Estonia), and Riga (Latvia).
“The inclusion of Hamburg in the MSC liner service Baltic Loop 3 underlines the importance of the Port of Hamburg as a hub for container traffic with the Baltic Sea region and the UK,” said Marina, Basso Michael, Regional Marketing Director for Europe at Port of Hamburg.
“In the first three quarters of 2021, we see an increase of 3.1% in container traffic with the Baltic Sea region compared to the same period last year. Container throughput in traffic with the UK settled at around 186,000 TEU in the same period, only just below the previous year’s result.”
The Port of Hamburg has also recently signed an alliance with the Port of Valencia which will see them collaborate in the development of maritime projects, with emphasis on the promotion of hydrogen.
Announced in November 2021, the alliance will specifically focus on projects of clean energy with support from the European Union. Both parties have agreed to focus their efforts on hydrogen generation initiatives, storage stations, supply and transport, and the use of hydrogen in terminals and machinery.
