Carolina Beach’s $20-million sand renourishment project is coming to an end as crews begin to pack up engines and pipes along the beach.
The park is expected to reopen Thursday, April 23.
Norfolk Dredging, the contractor who worked on the 2026 beach nourishment project, completed its sand placement and is now demobilizing by removing the turbine engines at the Ocean Boulevard beach access and Freeman Park. It’s also clearing the piping in front of the Central Business District.
The town will be closing Freeman Park temporarily Monday, April 20 through Wednesday, April 22 while crews complete their work.
The project first began in November 2025, but was paused in December in order for the dredge to complete work up in Philadelphia. The beach renourishment restarted in February.
Removal of all equipment is expected to be finished by the end of the month.
