Through our subsidiary SMIT Salvage, Boskalis has been involved in the salvage of the Blue Carrier 2 in Greece. This roll-on/roll-off carrier caught fire while sailing towards the island of Mykonos. Together with our local partner MEGATUGS Salvage & Towage, our specialized salvage team successfully brought the fire under control, after which permission was requested to tow the carrier into the port of Elefsis. There, the cargo was discharged deck by deck. We have now reached the third and final phase of this salvage operation: the safe and environmentally responsible disposal of the waste generated by the intense fire aboard the Blue Carrier 2.
