DREDGING work at Lyme Regis harbour continues this week, but there are no further plans to completely close the beach.
The town’s sandy beach was largely closed to the public last week while heavy machinery carried out the essential work, causing some frustration among visitors keen to make the most of the heatwave weather.
Work is said to be progressing well and there are now no further plans to close the beach while it is finished.
WORKS have been progressing well to dredge Lyme Regis harbour and replenish the sand beach, with no further plans to close the beach.
The dredger and its pipeline remain in operation and heavy plant will be demobilised this week, although an excavator may be required early next week to help remove the pipeline from the beach.
It was hoped the work would be complete by Friday, June 24, but as the dredger was slightly delayed last week, it is now expected to finish on Monday, June 27, with the pipeline being removed on Tuesday, June 28.
It will not be necessary to close any parts of the beach while the dredger remains in operation but the public is reminded of the dangers of the dredging pipe discharging at any point and must stay well clear at all times.
Dorset Council would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while the works are taking place.
