Corps awards contract for completion of Bois Brule flood risk management project

Posted on July 11, 2022

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers St. Louis District recently awarded a $7.3 million contract to Eagle Eye Electric, LLC of Bonne Terre, Missouri for the completion of 4.3 miles of levee restoration and the completion of two seepage berms.

With support from the project sponsor, the Bois Brule Levee District, this is last remaining feature of work to be completed on the Bois Brule Deficiency Correction Project to correct for under seepage and changes in levee grade.

The seepage berms address existing underseepage, while the levee restoration corrects the levee grade by restoring the levee to the approved height. This reduces risk of levee overtopping at several locations particularly where the levee grade is being restored. The completion of the work will restore full protection as designed and will reduce risk to approximately 26,000 acres of agricultural land, two industry complexes, a regional airport and a highway connecting to the bridge crossing the Mississippi to Chester, Illinois.

“The St. Louis District is excited to be able to complete the construction of the Bois Brule Deficiency Correction,” said Luke Miers, project manager.  The completed levee system will reduce risk to local communities by restoring the level of protection to the way the system was designed. We look forward to a continued partnership with the Bois Brule levee district and to handing over a completed project when the work is done”.

Construction is anticipated to be complete by approximately Fall of 2023.
