Commercial Marine Decarbonisation: Which Way Next?

Windcat Workboats' Hydrocat is due to be delivered in Q3 2021

Posted on June 10, 2021

There are already close to 400 registered for June’s final instalment in the Commercial Marine Network’s decarbonisation webinar series.

The free to attend online event takes place on Tuesday 15 June 2021 at 10:00 – 11:00 BST and will tackle the long term – 2035 onwards: The future fuel race – battery, hydrogen etc… How do we go about commissioning a vessel in this changing environment?

With a vessel’s typical life spanning several decades, decisions that vessel operators make on the vessels they are commissioning now could be more important than ever, with there being plenty of opportunities to head down expensive development routes that could prove to be dead ends.

With this in mind, our speakers are drawn from some of the areas we think could be leading the way in workboat decarbonisation in the next 5 or 10 years:

Cansu Tuncer, Business Development & Communication Manager, Navtek Naval Technologies Inc,   will focus on green marine propulsion systems (all electric-zero emission), safety, stability, data and digitalization.  Cansu will go through various pathways to zero emissions, covering propulsion options, alternative fuels, how feasible all-electric vessels are, marine batteries and tug operations.

Stuart Barnes, Regional Partnership Manager, The Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, recently led a team of researchers in producing a report for the Department for Transport (DfT) which outlines an ‘Innovation Roadmap’ with recommendations for government and industry to help achieve net zero emissions maritime in the operations and maintenance of North Sea offshore wind.

Willem Van Der Wel, Managing Director, Windcat Workboats BV, will talk about Windcat’s ambitious plans for the future and the development of the next generation hydrogen-powered CTV – Hydrocat, due to be delivered in Q3 2021.  Willem will also provide his insight on the work they are doing on hydrogen refuelling stations.
