Over the next several weeks, the city will be contracting dredging services of the Church Street Boat Launch at 1647 Sheridan Rd. Work is anticipated to begin on Monday, April 22 and be completed by Tuesday, May 7, weather permitting.

A contractor is hired each spring to remove sand that accumulates inside the harbor and at the mouth. Dredging work takes place in late April to ensure that the ramp is open and usable for community members by early May. In addition to being used by boat permit holders, the ramp is utilized by the City for launching vessels for emergency water rescues, aquatic camps, and sailing operations.

Dredging activities may create some minor inconveniences for Centennial Park and Dog Beach users. For safety purposes, community members should use caution when in the vicinity of the boat ramp and keep a distance from construction equipment. Two heavy construction vehicles will be temporarily parked overnight in the Church Street Boat Launch parking lot throughout the duration of the project. Parking restrictions are not expected along Sheridan Road.

Contractor
The project’s general contractor is Kovilic Construction Company, Inc., 3721 N. Carnation St., Franklin Park.

The project is being monitored by the city’s Lakefront and Athletics Division within the city’s Parks and Recreation Department. For questions or concerns, please contact Tim Carter, Lakefront and Athletics Division Manager at 3-1-1 or 847-448-4311.
