Boskalis Deploys Three Oceangoing Tugs for SMIT Salvage Operations in Vietnam, Madagascar and Brazil

Posted on October 28, 2026

As a subsidiary of Boskalis, it makes sense that SMIT Salvage draws on Boskalis’ extensive fleet during salvage operations. This often involves the deployment of oceangoing tugs to tow damaged vessels or to serve as firefighting vessels, accommodation vessels, or escort vessels.

In recent weeks, this collaboration has seen our BOKA Keeper, BOKA Guard, and BOKA Defender deployed on a range of tasks during different salvage operations around the world. The BOKA Guard was active in Vietnam, where she towed a disabled container vessel to a safe harbor. Shortly thereafter, the BOKA Defender was mobilized to assist with another fire on board a container vessel off the coast of Madagascar. Most recently, the BOKA Keeper departed from Brazil to escort a container vessel to Europe after a fire had broken out in its engine room.

These global deployments demonstrate the combined capabilities of Boskalis and SMIT Salvage in responding effectively to maritime emergencies around the world. We thank our salvage specialists and the crews of the vessels involved for their dedication throughout these salvage operations.
