A $2.4 million dollar dredging project is starting on sections of Onslow County’s New River.
The two-phase project will improve commercial and recreational boat navigation and add sand to North Topsail Beach.
Leaders from North Topsail Beach, Onslow County and the state have partnered together to improve commercial and recreational boat navigation in the New River.
“A lot of their overhead cost is increased by having to travel up and down the ICW to find an inlet that is deep enough that they can get out,” said Commissioner Chairman Barbara Ikner.
Dredging opens up channels that have been closed off by shoaling.
