As part of the R0Q consortium, we have been selected by De Werkvennootschap as preferred bidder for the redevelopment of the Brussels Ring Road around Zaventem. The project marks an important next step in the “Werken aan de Ring” programme and is the first zone to be addressed as part of the large scale redevelopment of the northern section of the ring road. With a construction cost of more than €1.5 billion, the redevelopment will make the ring road safer and smoother, while also improving liveability and cycling infrastructure in the surrounding area.
Robust, safe, efficient
The redevelopment will make the infrastructure more robust, safer and more efficient. At the same time, we are investing in a better quality of life for everyone who lives and works in the area. We are bringing mobility, road safety, quality of life, nature development and water management together in one integrated approach.
The project includes:
- A new parallel road structure to better separate through traffic from local traffic
- Seven kilometres of upgraded motorway
- Six kilometres of cycling infrastructure and seven kilometres of new walking paths
- More than 70 bridges and tunnels
- Additional water retention, noise barriers and green structures

With the selection of the preferred bidder, we are taking an important step towards the redevelopment of the ring road. The first zone we are tackling, covering Machelen, Zaventem and Kraainem, is a major convergence point for traffic, and both road users and the surrounding municipalities feel the impact. We are investing in infrastructure that is safer and more efficient, creating a robust and future proof ring road around Brussels. This is crucial for the Flemish economy of tomorrow.
