Dutch maritime company Van Oord has taken delivery of the second of three dual-fuel dredgers from Keppel FELS, a subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M).
Named Vox Apolonia, the vessel is an energy-efficient dredger with green features that can operate on liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The new dredger is identical to the first dredger, dubbed Vox Ariane, that was delivered to Van Oord in April.
Vox Alexia, the third dredger for Van Oord, is expected to be delivered next year.
With a hopper capacity of 10,500m³, the Dutch-flagged Vox Apolonia includes various features to lower fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
With its sustainable systems, the new dredger has secured the Green Passport and Clean Ship Notation from Bureau Veritas.
It also features a high degree of automation for its marine and dredging systems, as well as an on-board data acquisition and integrated control system to improve efficiency and operational cost savings.
Furthermore, the trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) includes one suction pipe with a submerged e-driven dredge pump, two shore discharge dredge pumps and five bottom doors.
With a total installed power of 14,500kW, the dredger can accommodate 22 persons.
It has been constructed according to the standards of the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) Tier III regulations.
