Oceanside Harbor dredge update: Sand placement wraps up this Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026.
The Army Corps of Engineers has cleared about 325,000 cubic yards of sand out of the Harbor inlet so far, with roughly 60,000 more to go.
This puts this dredge total at about 390,000 cubic yards of sand cleared and placed on beaches, a bit higher than the original estimate.
After October 7, crews will work to remove pipe, fencing, and equipment, with demobilization expected to finish around Oct. 19. Please use caution at the beach during this removal process.
Harbor Lot 12 will reopen as soon as possible.
Scientific monitoring indicates that fall sand placement, followed by winter northwest wave conditions, offers the best opportunity for dredged sand to move southward and stay on eroded beaches in South Oceanside.
Bigger beaches now gives us a wider storm buffer heading into an El Niño winter.
The US Army Corps of Engineers dredges the Harbor inlet to ensure the safe navigation of vessels, and the sand placement is a benefit of that work.
