Two export cables successfully installed for Taiwanese offshore wind farm Fengmiao I

Posted on April 23, 2026

In Taiwan, we have successfully loaded and installed two subsea high voltage export cables for the offshore wind farm Fengmiao. This marks an important step towards establishing the future connection between the offshore wind farm and the onshore electricity grid.

The cables – 45 and 44 kilometres long and together weighing more than eight thousand tonnes – are now fully installed and wet stored awaiting the availability of the offshore substation jacket. Now that this phase is complete, we will start burying the cables in the seabed using our trencher PT 1.

Once the offshore platform is available, we will pull the cables into the platform and complete the connection.

In the future, these cables will ensure that the wind energy generated offshore is transported safely and efficiently to shore. Fengmiao I has a capacity of 500 MW, enough to supply electricity to approximately half a million households, and forms part of the larger Fengmiao project with a total capacity of 1,800 MW. The site is located around 35 kilometres off the coast of Taichung.

For transport, installation, trenching and protection of the cables, we rely on our cable laying vessel Willem de Vlamingh. Step by step, we are contributing to a robust energy link between offshore wind and the Taiwanese grid.
