Trigon awards second berth construction contract

"Berth 2 Beyond Carbon" where the green ship that is docked will be the added berth location.

Posted on May 8, 2023

With the help of federal funding, Trigon Pacific Terminals will finally see the construction of their Berth 2 Beyond Carbon expansion.

Trigon has awarded the $71 million marine construction contract to PPM Civil Contractors ULC through a $75 million funding boost from Ottawa in November.

That combined with Trigon’s investments, puts the total budget for the second berth at just over $163 million.

Estimated to be operational in 2027, the new berth will be Canada’s first purpose built infrastructure to handle low carbon energy products like ammonia and hydrogen.

The announcement comes as Japan owned Kansai Electric Power and ATCO’s feasibility study started, to explore the expansion of the North Pacific Green Corridor to export either blue ammonia or blue hydrogen as a clean fuel source.
