The Administrator of Mangaluru City Corporation H. V. Darshan said on Friday that the storm-water drains in the City will be dredged under 32 packages by spending ₹4 crores.

Speaking to presspersons on the sidelines of the monthly phone-in programme , Mr. Darshan said that dredging of 27 packages has commenced and the works of remaining five packages will begin within a week.

He said that at least two to five persons representing local wards have been attached with each package to witness the dredging. The arrangement has been made to keep the local representative informed about the dredging and remove doubts in the minds of people about dredging.

He said Incident Commanders have been appointed in the MCC to manage emergency situations during rainy season. In addition, 300 men will be deputed to 60 wards as five men for each ward to attend to emergency works.

Mr. Darshan said that the one side of the road upgradation project between Pumpwell Circle or Mahaveera Circle and Karvali Junction is expected to be over by May 20. Works of other side of the road will be taken up after the rainy season to avoid causing inconvenience to people.

Similarly, the culvert project on the M. G. Road at Ballalbagh near TMA Pai International Convention Centre will be taken up after the rainy season.
