Schumer: Work on Lake Ontario NY Bay Project Continues

Posted on April 28, 2016

Sen. Charles Schumer says Tuesday the work by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is “in full swing” on Braddock Bay in the Monroe County town of Greece. The New York Democrat announced in August that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency planned to restore the waterway after erosion washed away wetlands and silting made it difficult for boats to navigate.

More than 300 acres of wetlands are being restored, and crews will soon start dredging to create a new 250-foot-wide navigation channel, more than four times wider than the old one. The dredging material will be used to build a new 1,200-foot-long barrier beach that will protect the bay from erosion.
