The Port of Tyne has announced the appointment of Julia Prescot CBE as its new Chair, effective from 1 July 2026.

Julia brings extensive experience in infrastructure, investment and leadership, having worked across major national transport and regeneration projects. Since October 2019, she has served on the Board of the Port of Tyne and as Deputy Chair from July 2021.

Her appointment comes at a time when the Port continues to play a major role in international markets and the regional economy, while leading maritime innovation to support the transition to a greener economy.

The Port also paid tribute to outgoing Chair, Lucy Armstrong, who steps down after nearly a decade of distinguished service, following a period of significant business transformation.

Julia Prescot CBE, Chair of the Port of Tyne, said: “I am very excited and honoured to be appointed as Chair of the Port of Tyne, a leading UK Trust Port and a major contributor to the North East economy, having been associated with the Board since 2019. The Port is well underway in its delivery of the long-term Tyne 2050 strategy, is undertaking major projects related to the green economy, technology-driven innovation, and regional economic regeneration. I am looking forward to working with the Board, the executive team and all our stakeholders in the North East to realise our vision of development, sustainability and operational excellence.”

Matt Beeton, CEO of the Port of Tyne, said: “We are delighted to welcome Julia as Chair and I look forward to working together to deliver the Port’s long-term vision. Julia brings extensive knowledge in investment, international business, finance, project development and management, having acted as an investor and adviser to governments and the private sector around the globe over many decades.”

Matt added: “We also extend our sincere thanks to Lucy for her outstanding leadership and contribution over the past nine years.”
