Posted on August 22, 2022

The Port of South Louisiana has purchased two cranes that it increases its capacity for handling bulk materials and allows for the handling of containers and project cargo.

The two Konecranes were dedicated Thursday in Reserve at the port’s Globalplex  Intermodal Terminal Dock along the Mississippi River. The facility needed new equipment in order to accommodate for increased throughput tonnage and efficiency, a news release said.

The two new cranes, named the Iris and the Cypress, have a maximum lifting capacity of 125 tons, the release said, and have the potential for continuous-duty bulk material handling or heavy project cargo, according to the port, the nation’s leading grain exporter and one of the largest tonnage ports in the Western Hemisphere.

The $12.6 million price tag was funded mostly by $11.4 million from the state’s Port Construction and Development Priority Program.
