Port of Palm Beach promotes internal candidate Michael Meekins to serve as its executive director

Posted on February 20, 2023

Port of Palm Beach commissioners Thursday chose its business development director, Michael Meekins, to serve as its executive director, a position that could pay as much as $280,000 a year.

That is the amount that has been budgeted but what Meekins will receive has yet to be determined. Meekins said he is hopeful that a contract will be approved at the next commission meeting on March 16. The current executive director, Manuel Almira, is retiring. He has held the post for the past 15 years. His annual salary is $280,800.

“I’m humbled and thankful,” said Meekins following the vote.

Meekins has been employed as director of business development and operations at the port since April 2020. He is responsible for day-to-day operations. He previously worked as senior director of business development and operations for MLSBC Cruises and as the senior director of cruise and port operations at Canaveral Port Authority.
