Marsa Maroc to operate Nador West Med’s Western Terminal

Posted on March 3, 2025

The Western Terminal will feature 1,440 linear metres of quay, founded at a depth of 18 metres, and will be divided into 2 sections: a first section of 900 metres dedicated to container activity and a second of 540 metres for general cargo handling.

This new terminal will cover an area of 60 hectares and will ultimately be equipped with eight ship-to-shore cranes (STS), 24 rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTG) and four latest-generation mobile cranes.

Marsa Maroc is set to mobilise, with its partners, an investment estimated at €280 million ($294.4 million) for the implementation of the first phase of this new terminal, which is scheduled to be commissioned starting in 2027.

Marsa Maroc, currently has three container transhipment terminals on the Mediterranean coast in its concession portfolio, thus strengthening its positioning in this market.

With the Western Terminal, Marsa Maroc’s containerised traffic processing capacity will be increased to 9 million TEUs, including nearly 7 million TEUs dedicated to container transhipment.
