The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been contracted to implement a project to develop the harbor of Raiymandhoo island in Meemu atoll.
The contract was signed during a ceremony held at the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure on Monday.

Director General Fathimath Shana Farooq signed the agreement on behalf of the government and Chief Operating Officer Shahid Hussain Moosa signed it on behalf of MTCC.
Under the scope of the project, MTCC is required to conduct harbor basin dredging operations in an area measuring 43,875 cubic meters as well as channel dredging operations in an area measuring 6,372 cubic meters.
The construction of a revetment measuring 311 meters, a 100-meter groyne, a breakwater measuring 100 meters and a quay wall measuring 254 meters also come under the scope of the project.
Further, MTCC will also be installing a harbor pavement measuring 1,230 square meters alongside harbor lights.
The Raiymandhoo harbor development project is valued at MVR 69.93 million.
The project was contracted to be completed within 480 days.
The implementation of the project will begin only after an Environmental Impact Assessment is carried out.
The island council of Raiymandhoo highlighted that once the project is completed, it will pave a convenient path for island residents to utilize the harbor and travel to and from the island. In addition to this, the implementation of the project is expected to resolve the issue of soil erosion facing the island community.
