The Port of Los Angeles will invest $20m in regional charging and fuelling infrastructure for zero-emission drayage trucks under an expanded clean-air agreement with the Port of Long Beach and South Coast Air Quality Management District.
The Los Angeles Harbor Commission has approved an addendum to the cooperative agreement signed by the three parties last year, clearing the way for a new round of measures aimed at cutting emissions from ships and landside freight transport.
Alongside the infrastructure investment, the ports will enhance incentives for cleaner ocean-going vessels and introduce new incentives designed to increase the use of zero-emission trucks.
The revised agreement also introduces implementation milestones, annual reporting and public engagement requirements.
South Coast AQMD and the Long Beach Harbor Commission had already approved the addendum, meaning the Los Angeles vote brings the expanded agreement into effect.
