Lake Decatur Dredging Ahead of Schedule

Lake Decatur

Posted on November 30, 2017

City officials in Decatur say progress is moving along on the Lake Decatur dredging effort and the project could be done ahead of schedule.

Interim Decatur Public Works director Matt Newell says about 76 percent of the work has been done and there’s a possibility work will be finished by the end of next year. The completion date for the project has been set for December 2019. City contractor Great Lakes Dredge and Dock has been at the lake for three years.

The goal of the project is to increase lake capacity by 30 percent, or an additional 52 days of water supply. That’s being done by removing tons of sediment from the bottom of the lake and pumping it to a storage site in Oakley.
