The Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) has appointed 30-year maritime industry veteran Bobby Wein as Incoming Chief Commercial Officer as part of a structured, long-term leadership transition.
Wein joined JAXPORT in late August and will work alongside current Chief Commercial Officer Robert Peek, who will continue directing commercial strategy and the Marketing and Sales Department until his planned retirement in October 2027. Following this transition period, Wein will assume full responsibility as Chief Commercial Officer.
Leadership background and transition scope
The extended transition is designed to provide continuity across JAXPORT’s commercial operations and customer relationships:
-
Executive alignment: Peek, who joined JAXPORT in 1995 and has served as Chief Commercial Officer since 2022, will lead commercial strategy while onboarding Wein across the port’s accounts and economic development partnerships.
-
Prior industry experience: Wein most recently served as Vice President–Commercial for SSA Marine’s Conventional Division, managing national commercial strategy across breakbulk, automobiles, forest products, steel, project cargo, and river terminals.
-
Operational focus: In his new role, Wein will support global sales, cargo retention, and growth initiatives, while leveraging his background in public-private partnerships, offshore wind logistics, dry bulk, and off-dock container depots.
Executive perspectives
“This is a thoughtful, long-term approach to succession planning for one of JAXPORT’s most important leadership positions,” said JAXPORT CEO Eric Green. “Robert remains at the helm of our commercial team, and his continued leadership will provide Bobby with the opportunity to develop a firsthand understanding of JAXPORT’s business, customers, strategic priorities and industry relationships before assuming responsibility for the role.”
“JAXPORT has an outstanding reputation, a diverse cargo base and a strong commercial team,” added Wein. “I am honored to have the opportunity to work alongside Robert and learn from the experience and relationships he has developed throughout his remarkable career.”
