That was the challenge our Brennan crews faced on the Penobscot River in Orrington, Maine.
Despite significant tidal fluctuations and reversing river currents, our team successfully placed four to six inches of clean sand across six acres of mercury-contaminated sediment.
This pilot project marks an important step in addressing historic mercury contamination in the Penobscot River Estuary. The thin layer cap is designed to isolate contaminated sediment, reduce exposure, and support a healthier river habitat.
