Harbor Star, Ilocos Norte ink river restoration MoA

Posted on November 29, 2023

HARBOR Star Shipping Services Inc. said Thursday that it had signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with the provincial government of Ilocos Norte to provide dredging services for the restoration of the Bislak River.

“[T]he company has formalized its commitment to the Bislak River Restoration Project through the signing of a MoA with the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte. The groundbreaking ceremony for this endeavor took place today, November 23, 2023,” Harbor Star said in a statement.

The maritime services provider said the project would span 1.5 kilometers of the river’s mouth and navigational access. It will also cover a 26-kilometer stretch of the river’s dredging zone.

Harbor Star said the provincial government had also issued the requisite Notice of Award, Notice to Proceed, and Permit to Operate, authorizing dredging operations for 10 years from Nov. 22, 2023, until Nov. 21, 2033.

The provincial government was said to have entered into an agreement with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for the dredging project covering the towns of Vintar and Bacarra to prevent wide-scale flooding in low-lying areas.

Harbor Star’s share price rose by 2 centavos to close at P0.86 on Thursday.
