The nomination committee of Norwegian energy major Equinor ASA has put forward Mikael Karlsson as a new candidate for the company’s board of directors (BoD).

In a media release, Equinor said the nomination committee recommended that the company’s corporate assembly elect Karlsson as a new member of the company’s BoD.

Equinor’s board has consisted of 10 members after Michael Lewis left in March 2023. Looking to fill that position and have 11 board members the nomination committee recommended Karlsson as a new shareholder-elected member of the board.

“Karlsson is a partner and Vice Chairman of Actis Capital, a leading global investor in sustainable infrastructure”, Equinor said. “In the period 2021-2023, he was Chief Investment Officer in Actis, in 2012 he became partner in Actis and had the role as Head of Energy and Infrastructure from 2015-2021. From 2009 to 2015 he was CEO of Globeleq, an Actis portfolio company. Karlsson held several roles in ABB Energy Ventures before he came to Actis”.

Karlsson holds an MBA from the University of Massachusetts in the United States and an MSc in Industrial Engineering and Management from Linköping Institute of Technology in Sweden.

Karlsson’s election to Equinor’s board is expected to be completed during the company’s corporate assembly meeting on March 20, 2024. Should the decision be positive, the election will enter into effect April 1, 2024. Karlsson’s term would be effective until June 2025 when the ordinary election of shareholder-elected members takes place.
