The Dutra Group is proud to announce the award of the FY26 Norfolk International Terminals North Container Terminal Maintenance and Deepening Project.
The project will maintain and deepen critical container berths and access channels at the Virginia Port Authority’s Norfolk International Terminal by dredging approximately 1.5 million cubic yards of material. By deepening these berths to the newly authorized 55’ depths, the project will allow one of the East Coast’s most important maritime gateways to bring in larger ships and increase transportation efficiency in the region.
Dutra’s mechanical dredge Crane Barge Harry S will mobilize to Norfolk this fall to begin work on this project. The CB Harry S and its Liebherr 8300 are among the newer assets in Dutra’s marine fleet. Prior to mobilizing to Norfolk, the vessel completed the final phase of the Mobile Harbor Deepening Project in Mobile, Alabama.
Dutra has a long history of performing deepening work for ports across the United States, including Port of Oakland, Port of Canaveral, and Port of Long Beach. Dutra will leverage its experienced workforce and industry-leading mechanical dredging fleet to execute the project and support the continued operation of Virginia Port Authority’s critical navigation infrastructure.
Dutra is excited to expand its presence in the Norfolk, Chesapeake Bay, and surrounding communities. Dutra has served the region on several different projects in recent history, including dredging the Atlantic Ocean Channel, Cape Henry, and Thimble Shoals.
