Sediment accumulation in a hydroelectric reservoir is not just a maintenance issue. Left unaddressed, it reduces water conveyance capacity, compromises intake performance, and progressively limits the usable volume of the reservoir.
At a multi-stage hydroelectric complex in Guatemala, we deployed a DRP150 remote-controlled dredging platform paired with a Dragflow EL1204HH electric dredging pump. With a 150 mm discharge and solids passage of up to 35 mm, the pump was selected to handle demanding sediment conditions effectively.
The modular pontoon, positioning winches, and pump-lifting system allowed precise, controlled movement across the working area, while all operations were managed remotely from shore.
This approach reduced dependence on conventional excavation equipment, improved operator safety, and delivered measurable results: controlled sediment removal, maintained intake and hydraulic areas, and recovered reservoir capacity critical to long-term hydropower performance.
