DeSantis: Florida ports, including JAXPORT, can help deliver goods on time amid supply chain issues

Posted on October 20, 2021

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said the state’s ports have the ability to deliver goods on time throughout the holiday season.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Gov. Ron DeSantis spoke in Jacksonville Tuesday to highlight that Florida ports are open.

During a news conference at Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT), he said Florida can be a solution to the global supply chain issues affecting the country, causing package shipments to be delayed.

The port is one of several Florida ports that has offered to help.

DeSantis announced that JAXPORT and other Florida ports are offering incentives to businesses who want to move their cargo to Florida.

The Florida governor said the state’s ports have the ability to deliver goods on time throughout the holiday season.

“I think that would be great. That would make a lot of sense, if they would use what we have to get things done,” said Audrey Nett, who was in the process of picking up some groceries.

“Things that we normally would just go and pick up — it’s just not there,” she pointed out. “So many shelves are empty that it’s ridiculous.”

JAXPORT CEO Eric Green said that despite the COVID-19 pandemic, fiscal year 2021 was a historic year for JAXPORT. He continues to welcome all cargo vessels to ship through Florida.
