The contract for the construction of a dinghy jetty and coastal protection in Vilimalé was awarded to MTCC Sunday. In separate statements released by the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure, it was stated that agreements for the construction of the dinghy jetty as well as the coastal protection project in Vilimalé were signed with MTCC.
State Minister Ismail Hameed signed the agreements on behalf of the ministry, while Managing Director Ahmed Saudhee signed on behalf of MTCC.

The project to construct the dinghy jetty on the northern side of Vilimalé was contracted to be completed within five months. The works to be undertaken under this project include:
- 3,698 CBM of sand dredging from the harbor area and channel
- Construction of a 74-meter quay wall with a ramp and stairs
- 3 meters of boulder revetment
- 24 meters of boulder breakwater
- A concrete jetty measuring 74 meters in length and 2 meters in width
The project to protect the shoreline in various areas around Vilimalé was contracted to be completed within six months. The works to be undertaken under this project include:
- Reclaiming an area of 1.1 hectares with sand
- 150 meters of boulder revetment
- 181 meters of submerged boulder breakwater
- Removal of a 60-meter section from the previously constructed breakwater
As MTCC was awarded the coastal protection work in Vilimalé, a large portion of the beach on the southern side of the island, where the Thilamalé Bridge project is ongoing, has already eroded.
