Around the clock, Boskalis’ trailing suction hopper dredgers mobilize and dredge as a matter of course. But recently, our Gateway took it a step further by doing both simultaneously in Mexico. During its mobilization for a new capital dredging project in the port of Ensenada, in northwestern Mexico, ASIPONA Chiapas requested the Gateway to also stop at its port further south for an emergency dredging campaign. As a result, the mobilization and a dredging project in Chiapas coincided perfectly. Call it a ‘dredgilization’…
Over the past few months, a large amount of sand had washed into the access channel to the ‘Puerto Chiapas’ from the Pacific Ocean, threatening the port’s accessibility and causing potential disruptions to the container trade. To prevent this, our Gateway had to dredge the sediment from the access channel and the basin. This campaign has now been successfully completed, and the Gateway has since begun work in Ensenada, where we will be conducting capital dredging in the access channel and turning basin over the coming weeks.
