Arcadis appoints Greg Steele, Mark Cowlard and Heather Polinsky

Posted on June 26, 2023

Global engineering consultancy Arcadis has promoted three business area leaders to its executive leadership team: Greg Steele, Mark Cowlard and Heather Polinsky.

The new executive leadership team members report directly to Alan Brookes, the firm’s new CEO.

“Driving growth and creating even greater value in the sectors and amongst the communities in which we operate is essential, and having Mark, Heather and Greg at the table sets us up to be successful in a world where many of our clients’ most pressing issues and opportunities are global ones,” said Brookes.

Since 2020, Arcadis has been reworking its global business model. With public and private sector companies around the world working to adapt to megatrends like urbanisation, climate change, and greater digitalisation the firm has launched a range of new services – including the launch of a new digital consulting wing. In 2022, it launched a new business model, revolving around three business areas – resilience, places and mobility – as demand rises to help accommodate sustainability changes on those three fronts.

Looking ahead, Mark Cowlard will serve as Arcadis’ global president for places. Cowlard was formerly chief executive of Atkins UK and since becoming leader of the Places business has focused on creating smart and sustainable places for owners, investors, users, and communities.

Meanwhile, Heather Polinsky will work as global president for resilience. Polinsky has previously been Arcadis’ chief operating officer in North America, and her current role as global lead for resilience places her well to build on the business’ heritage and expertise in energy transition, water management and environmental remediation to help clients create a more resilient future.

Finally, Greg Steele becomes global president for nobility. Steele has previously been Arcadis executive leadership team member for Asia and the Pacific region, and having headed up the mobility business since early 2022 he is now focused on working closely with transport owners, operators, and contractors to deliver greener and cleaner design, asset and program management and new mobility solutions across the world.

The executive

The full executive leadership team comprises of nine experts from across Arcadis.

Alongside CEO Brookes and the three new appointments, the other members are Chief Financial Officer Virginie Duperat; Chief Growth Officer Mary Ann Hopkins; Chief Transformation Officer Edel Christie; Chief Delivery Officer Hans Dekker; and Chief People Officer Jacoline van Blokland.
