Approved Upgrades Lead to New issue at Clam Pass

Collier County commissioners are moving forward with improvements to Clam Pass Park. They approved $1 million in upgrades Tuesday, but many fans of the park still want more done.

The approval comes after the county denied a broader and more expensive plan for the park in March.

Kayaking at the park is a favorite for visitors, and soon access will be even easier. The park upgrades include everything from boardwalk planks to resurfacing the parking lot.

Nicole Johnson of the Conservancy of Southwest Florida said that improvements proposed in March would have negatively impacted the environment, but the ones approved Tuesday were more appropriate.

“We believe that what they proposed provides the upgrades that are needed in a manner that will not have a negative impact to the system itself,” Johnson said.
