Amazon has promoted top transportation executive Udit Madan to its next VP of worldwide operations, overseeing the company’s sprawling logistics network.

As VP of transportation, Madan has led the e-commerce giant’s sortation, trucking, air and last-mile delivery operations.

In a message to Amazon employees on Thursday, Worldwide Amazon Stores CEO Doug Herrington said he’s looking forward to working more closely with Madan “as he and the team double down on reinventing ways to further advance our work to improve delivery speeds, widen selection, and lower our cost to serve customers.”

Madan has risen through the ranks at Amazon since joining it in 2008 as a software development engineer. In 2021, he began leading a new organization within Amazon encompassing its delivery operations, delivery experience teams and supporting technology and products. The next year, his role expanded to lead all of Amazon’s transportation network.

Madan takes over for John Felton, who has been named SVP and CFO of Amazon Web Services, replacing Richard Puccio. In his time leading Amazon’s worldwide operations, Felton oversaw the company’s efforts to regionalize its U.S. fulfillment network, which resulted in faster delivery speeds and reduced operating costs.

Felton described Madan as a talented leader with experience in the company’s operations.

″[Madan] was at the helm when we built Amazon Logistics, and over the past two years has grown our entire Transportation business, better connecting the middle and last mile than ever before,” Felton said in a message to employees.
