Althea Henslee promoted at Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC)

Althea Henslee has been named chief of the Sensor Integration Branch (SIB), part of the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) Information Technology Laboratory (ITL).

SIB is focused on instrumentation, robotics, autonomy, physical phenomenology measurement, sensors, and the integration of hardware and software systems to support the nation’s civil and military missions. The branch leads the transition of developed technologies through technical and operational support and technology demonstrations.

Henslee joined ERDC as a computer scientist with the ITL Computational Analysis Branch. Her research spans many different disciplines including computer science, data analytics, geographic information systems, spatial analysis and hydrological modeling.

She has contributed to the development of a machine learning-based worldwide soil physical property and chemical characteristic classification system. Recently, her research has focused on computational linguistics, which is also the topic of her dissertation.

Before joining ERDC, Henslee was an instructor at both Mississippi State University and Hinds Community College.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in communication and a master’s degree in in computer science from Mississippi State University. She has also earned a masters in English from Mississippi College.

Henslee is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in computer science from Vanderbilt University.
