Delmas Whittaker will take on a new leadership role as head of Marine Maintenance at the Port of Seattle.
Whittaker has served as the Maritime Division’s senior manager of fishing and commercial vessels at Fishermen’s Terminal for three years and has worked for the port for 13. In that role, he has advised the NF audience on the Seattle port’s support for fleet members adapting to covid-related restrictions and changes in at the start of the busy season for 2020 and 2021.
“Delmas Whittaker has proven to have the leadership ability, integrity, and skills throughout his tenure at the Port to get the job done and deliver results,” said Stephanie Jones Stebbins, Maritime Director at the Port of Seattle. “We welcome him in this new position and look forward to the great things he will accomplish at the helm of Marine Maintenance.”
In his new role, Whittaker will also serve on the Maritime Directors Team and manage a staff of about 150 employees. He will start in this role on Aug. 16, 2021.
In addition to his oversight of the terminal, his prior role included maritime operations and facilities management of Salmon Bay Marina (170 recreational slips) and the Maritime Industrial Center (three mooring docks for commercial fishing vessels).
After serving a distinguished 25-year career in the United States Navy, Delmas joined the Port of Seattle in 2008. He managed logistics at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport for nearly a decade before taking on a senior role in the maritime division.
