While Dredge Yard has just reported on LinkedIn that it sold a small electric Dredger for potash mining in Canada, DredgeWire has learned more about the buyer and the interesting mining project application.

Milestone Phase I Project

Western Potash has developed a Final Engineering Report along with Amec Foster Wheeler and Agapito Associates Inc.  The Final Engineering Report outlines how Western can utilize the Milestone mine asset through reduced levels of potential production using innovative selective solution mining techniques and crystallization ponds. Reducing CAPEX and maintaining a competitive OPEX were key goals of the evaluation. The Milestone Project processing requirements include: Six (6) horizontal caverns in total for the life of the Phase I Project, a crystallization pond, processing facility, product storage, loadout, and all other necessary site infrastructure.

The purpose of the Milestone Phase I Project is to test and optimize the horizontal solution mining method in Saskatchewan, and to investigate how the method can be applied to full-scale potash production. Western Potash adds that “This Phase I Project is truely innovative and could revolutionize the way potash is extracted in the province.”
