For the first time since the recession, the city is putting aside money for several years of beach restoration. It will keep the beach from Rudee Inlet to 89th Street on a regular replenishment schedule and reduce some of the concerns among beachfront residents such as Pearson.
In this year’s proposed budget, the city plans to put $2 million in the beach replenishment account and add $1.2 million to $2.5 million each year for the next six years. With support from the Army Corps of Engineers, the city will set aside $24 million for current and future restoration projects.
