València – Import and export traffic at Valenciaport (which includes the ports of Valencia, Gandia and Sagunto) exceeded 6.5 million tonnes in August, representing an increase of 2.5% over the same month last year. So far this year, nearly 54 million tonnes (-0.56) have passed through the three terminals; and looking at the full year – year-on-year data – traffic volume is already above 80 million tonnes (+0.47%).
Assessing container movements, the Statistical Office of the Port Authority of Valencia (APV) reports that during August, Valenciaport handled 493,455 TEUs (standard 20-foot containers), representing an increase of 8.05% compared to August 2024. This figure rises to 3.8 million TEUs when referring to accumulated traffic between January and August (+4.75%). In year-on-year terms, 5.6 million containers were handled (+7.82%).
August brought positive figures for the car market (in terms of goods). In the eighth month of the year, 31,276 vehicles (+12.28%) were loaded and unloaded at the Sagunto and Valencia terminals, although the cumulative total since January stood at 325,088 units (-13.97%).
Consolidation of regular line passengers
The statistics reflect the trend in regular passenger traffic, which reached 141,992 passengers in August (+0.69%), surpassing the 104,834 cruise passengers (-18.61%). Year-on-year data – a key indicator of the trend – show that 834,974 people (+1.03%) used regular lines departing from or arriving at Valenciaport, while the number of cruise passengers amounted to 780,580 (-6.20%).
China and the United Stated among the main markets
China is the international market that exchanges the most cargo traffic with Valenciaport, both in terms of tonnes and number of TEUs. So far in 2025, 550,983 containers (+18.81%) and more than 5.8 million tonnes (+12.46%) have been handled with the Asian country. The United States is another of the countries with the highest commercial traffic with the Port Authority of Valencia, with 263,192 containers (+6.02%) and more than 4 million tonnes (+10.21%). Algeria is the third largest market in terms of TEUs (212,581 units and +42.76%), while Italy surpasses the US market in terms of cargo weight, exceeding 4.6 million tonnes (+1.30%).
