USACE Vicksburg District welcomes Maj. Benjamin Speckhart as new deputy commander

VICKSBURG, Miss. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District welcomed MAJ Benjamin Speckhart as the new deputy commander on August 18, 2025.

A native of Taylor, Missouri, MAJ Speckhart commissioned as an engineer officer from the United States Military Academy in May of 2011. His previous duty assignments include: Platoon Leader and Executive Officer in the 62nd Engineer Battalion (Heavy), 36th Engineer Brigade; Chief of Operations and Assistant Brigade Engineer in the 1st Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault); Assistant Operations Officer in the 326th Engineer Battalion, 1BCT, 101st ABN DIV; Company Commander of Alpha Company, 326th BEB, 1BCT, 101st ABN DIV; Division Engineer for the 1st Armored Division; and Battalion Operations officer for the 16th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division.

Previously, MAJ Speckhart served in the USACE Baltimore District from 2019-2022 as a Project Engineer and Project Manager and is arriving to the Vicksburg District after completing his most recent assignment as the Executive Officer for the 16th Engineer Battalion, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss, Texas.

MAJ Speckhart’s civilian education includes a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from West Point, a Master of Science in Engineering Management from the Missouri University of Science and Technology, and a Master of Operational Studies from the United States Army Command and General Staff College. He is a licensed professional engineer and certified project management professional.

His military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation, and Afghanistan Campaign Medal. He is a recipient of the Engineer Regiment’s Bronze DeFleury Medal and the Armor Regiment’s Noble Patron of Armor award.

The USACE Vicksburg District is engineering solutions to the nation’s toughest challenges. The Vicksburg District encompasses a 68,000-square-mile area across portions of Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana, that holds nine major river basins and incorporates approximately 460 miles of mainline Mississippi River levees. The Vicksburg District is engaged in hundreds of projects and employs approximately 1,100 personnel.
