USACE seeks comments on proposed work in Buzzards Bay, Vineyard Sound in Falmouth

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District received a permit application to conduct work in waters of the United States from the Town of Falmouth for proposed work at various dredging footprints and beach nourishment sites in Buzzards Bay and Vineyard Sound in Falmouth, Mass.

The proposed work involves permitting the Comprehensive Permits for the Town of Falmouth’s dredging and beach nourishment projects. It is a comprehensive effort to consolidate and manage 31 dredging and beach nourishment sites required to maintain the town’s waterways, harbors, and salt ponds; 20 existing dredging projects and 11 beach nourishment projects. The overall proposed project includes:

• All sites that were included in the original Comprehensive Permits;

• All amendments that were added to the project over the last 10 years;

• Two new maintenance dredge sites previously authorized under separate permits; and

• The addition of one new beach nourishment site. USACE is soliciting comments from members of the public; federal, state and local agencies; American Indian Tribes; and other interested parties to consider and evaluate the impacts of this proposed activity.
