USACE Jacksonville District awards contract for operations and maintenance (O&M) dredging of Banana River

Posted on September 30, 2026

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, awarded a contract for ~$7.9 million to Waterfront Property Services, LLC (doing business as Gator Dredging), to perform operations and maintenance dredging along the Banana River in support of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) at Kennedy Space Center (KSC) and the U.S. Space Force (USSF) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station (CCSFS).

Under this contract, approximately 524,000 cubic yards of shoaled material will be removed from Banana River and adjacent waterways that serve both KSC and CCSFS. Dredging operations are anticipated begin in December 2026 and conclude by June 2027.

These waterways are vital to Government and commercial spaceflight operations, serving as transportation routes for launch vehicles and critical components. Notably, the Banana River is the route used by NASA’s Pegasus barge to deliver Artemis rocket elements to KSC. Restoring these channels ensures safe and reliable transport, directly supporting NASA’s human spaceflight efforts to return astronauts to the Moon, explore the lunar South Pole, and lay the groundwork for future missions to Mars.
