U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Wilmington District Public Affairs Chief David Connolly announced the award of a debris removal contract at a Town Hall meeting in Lake Lure, N.C., on October 24. The contract calls for the removal of 350,000 cubic yards of debris within Lake Lure and associated shorelines. Personal property such as boats will not be removed. There will be no dredging or removal of submerged material. The performance period for the contract is 160 days.
USACE brings unique capabilities to the Hurricane Helene emergency response but is just one piece of a much larger Army and DOD team working to support federal, state, and local partners. The Wilmington District oversees the disaster response and relief effort on behalf of USACE in North Carolina.
