Urgently dredge the drainage system.

In An Hai ward, starting in July 2026, the People’s Committee of the ward requested the Son Tra Drainage Joint Venture to urgently dredge mud, soil, and garbage from the drainage pipes along 11 roads and areas that frequently experience localized flooding during the rainy season.

Mr. Phan Thanh Duc, representative of the Son Tra Drainage Joint Venture, said: “We have completed dredging and clearing the entire rainwater drainage system along 8 roads and addressed blockages in 4 wastewater drainage ditches in An Hai ward. The unit is currently focusing on dredging the sewers on the remaining 3 roads, aiming for completion in September 2026. When heavy rain occurs, we will also mobilize about 15 people to clear drainage and address flooding points on the roads under the ward’s management.”

In Son Tra ward, along with the drainage system on Le Phu Tran street, starting from September 7th, the Son Tra Drainage Joint Venture will begin dredging the drainage system, which is clogged with soil, sand, and garbage, on 17 streets at risk of localized flooding during heavy rains. The total length of the drainage system requiring dredging is over 7km, and is expected to be completed in September 2026.

Currently, Nam Phuoc Construction and Trading Company Limited and District 7 Public Service Company Limited are carrying out dredging and clearing of the drainage system in Hoa Xuan, Hoa Khanh, Lien Chieu, Hai Van wards and Ba Na, Hoa Vang, Hoa Tien communes…

Local authorities also organized campaigns, mobilizing associations, organizations, and the public to participate in dredging and clearing drainage ditches, canals, and ditches in residential areas.

According to Mr. Nguyen Tan, Vice Chairman of the Hoa Tien Commune People’s Committee, the commune has launched a simultaneous campaign to dredge 5 drainage ditches in Dong Nghe and Le Son Nam villages with a total length of nearly 1.6km, and to clear bushes, unclog drains, ditches, and canals around residential areas in the commune.

The commune also disseminated information and encouraged people not to litter, to fill in or cover rainwater inlets, drains, canals, and ditches, and to regularly clean them, preventing garbage from obstructing water flow, as well as promptly reporting areas at risk of flooding for appropriate action.

Ensuring drainage capacity

In addition to the efforts of local authorities, relevant units are also urgently dredging and clearing the drainage system on roads and drainage projects commissioned by the city.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc, Head of the Ngu Hanh Son Station under the Da Nang Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company, reported that the station has dredged nearly 5,600 inlets, drainage ditches, and manholes of various types, completing the volume ordered for 2026. Simultaneously, they have completed cleaning and garbage collection at rainwater inlets along 481km of urban roads in Ngu Hanh Son ward and the My Khe coastal rainwater discharge basin (An Hai ward). The station continues to assign personnel to inspect and clean rainwater inlets on the roads under its management to ensure readiness for heavy rains, clear drainage, and contribute to reducing localized flooding.

The Da Nang Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company reported that, as of early September 2026, the unit had cleared and dredged nearly 25,000 rainwater inlets along various roads, removing mud, soil, and garbage. In addition, they dredged nearly 10,600 cubic meters of mud and soil from sewers and canals; cleared drainage ditches along Road No. 4 in the Hoa Khanh Industrial Zone; completed maintenance and repair work on flood control pumping stations, and maintained standby operation during heavy rains to ensure drainage.

The company has also issued plans for flood and inundation prevention and response scenarios for urban drainage systems in 2026…

Mr. Ha Van Thanh, Director of the Da Nang Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company, said that although a large amount of preparatory work for flood control during the rainy season has been completed and the preparation and inspection of machinery and equipment ensure they are always ready to perform their duties, the company is still strengthening inspections and handling to proactively respond to heavy rains.

The unit is stepping up maintenance and repair of flood control pumping stations to ensure optimal operation in the event of heavy rainfall.

The People’s Committee of the city has just issued Official Document No. 7897/UBND-SXD requesting the People’s Committees of wards and communes in the city center and the urban areas of Tam Ky, Hoi An , etc., to focus on directing the dredging and clearing of drains, inlets, and drainage ditches on roads under their management. The People’s Committee of the city reminds localities to prioritize the thorough clearing and dredging of 100% of inlets, drainage ditches, and drainage canals in the urban center and areas at risk of flooding during the rainy season…
