KANSAS CITY, MO. — The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in partnership with the Kansas Water Office, is advising the public that Water Injection Dredging is happening at Tuttle Creek Lake for the Water Injection Dredging Demonstration.
This demonstration project will provide an assessment of how this tool may assist with inland reservoir sediment management.
The upcoming phase is part of the ongoing summer period demonstration. Crews are currently planning for operations to begin on Monday, June 22, lasting for a 10-day period thereafter.
Please note that this schedule is tentative since there could be delays or adjustments required due to adverse weather or water conditions.
During the demonstration period, USACE and its partners will be monitoring the effectiveness and efficiency of the dredge to move sediment within and out of the reservoir. Additional monitoring downstream of the dam within the Big Blue and Kansas Rivers, will ensure activities do not degrade water quality, harm aquatic life, or impact sensitive areas.
The results of this demonstration period will be used to assess the long-term viability of water injection dredging as a strategy for managing sediment at Tuttle Creek Lake and other USACE reservoirs.
We encouraged members of the public are to visit the project website for more information and updates on progress.
